Animal Control is Knocking on Your Door . . .
        What would you do?????
        By Kathy Arnold

        May 14TH:

Moved Loki out of the city to a kennel in a nearby county. Cost, $9/day. Enclosure is small but adequate for a short time. Asked kennel owner to double check their local ordinances to be sure we were legal.

        May 16TH:

Kennel owner called, found out wolfdog mixes were illegal within the city limits but were not restricted within the county. In order to protect Loki, I would have to move him.

        May 17TH:

Called around looking for an adequate kennel outside the city limits. Could not locate adequate facility's outside the city limits. A friend offered to allow me to set up a temporary enclosure on his land outside the city limits and only 18 miles from me.

        May 18TH:

Met with new friend and inspected the land. We talked about placement and size of the enclosure. We also talked about escape proof containment, how Loki may feel about new surroundings, interactions with their dogs, ect. Decided to move Macuwi in with Loki as both were mourning for each other.

        May 19TH:

Started building a temporary enclosure on friends land outside the city limits. Enclosure is 25 feet by 25 feet by 6 feet tall chain link. I installed a double gate system with 2 foot anti-dig ground wire encompassing the internal circumference of the enclosure. Built two large dog houses for shade and comfort. Purchased a large pail for drinking water along with a self-feeder.

        May 20TH:

Requested extension, granted, new court date set for June 13th.

        May 24TH:

Finished enclosure and all details. Cost; nearly $800

        May 25TH:

Moved Loki and Macuwi to the new enclosure. They were so happy to see each other, jumping all around.

        May 27TH:

Took Macuwi to vet for rabies shot and checkup. Bought city license.

        May 30TH:

Requested extension, granted, new court date set for June 13th.

        June 13TH:

Expired Rabies and City license charges dropped. Animal control did not show up, prosecuting attorney requested extension. New court date set for June 25th.

        June 23rd:

Hard drive crash! Lost most current items for my defense. Start rebuilding and researching items for our defense.

        June 25TH:
WE WON, the charges were dismissed after Dr.Pierotti's testimony. Animal control never even showed up but we proceeded anyway. Didn't get to use anything I had prepared as it never even got that far. Took Loki to vet for vaccination updates, stopped by AC and picked up city license. Brought Loki and Macuwi home, they were so excited when we were getting close to home. They both ran around the yard and house looking for anything new, they were so glad to be back home!
