Transylvania County amended their Animal and Fowl Ordinance naming 17 breeds of dogs as potentially dangerous. The breeds named are: Akita, Blue Heeler, Bulldog, Dalmation, German Shepherd, Malamute, Mastiff, Rottweiler, "wolf hybrid", Australian Shepherd, Bouvier, Chow, Doberman, Husky, Malinois, "pit bull", and Chinese Shar-Pei! The ordinance, which passed on May 13, states that, "the owner, having been determined to have subsequently violated Sec. 3-4 (b) may be enjoined and/or prohibited from owning or possessing dogs of a potentially dangerous breed in the future." Section 3-4 (b) requires owners of any dog that has been declared dangerous under North Carolina state law to confine the dog.
