Idaho, Post Falls, Animal Control Regulations

        Running at Large:
Post Falls has a leash law which requires that dog owners must keep their dogs contained whether or not they have licenses. Dogs cannot run loose in the City except on the owners property. If you are going to take your dog for a walk, please keep it on a leash and under the control of a person with the strength to control the dog.

Dogs are not permitted in any of the City parks or ballfields.

Female dogs in heat must be kept in a secure enclosure by their owners so that they will not attract stray dogs.

        Disturbing the Peace:
To ensure the peace and quiet of each neighborhood, animal owners and caretakers within the City of Post Falls must keep their animal from barking, howling, whining, etc.

        Abandonment of Animals:
A person caring for an animal may not willfully abandon or turn the animal loose because of disease, old age, injury or other reason. If a sick, injured or dangerous animal is picked up by the Animal Control Department it will be impounded and may be disposed of at the discretion of the Department.

        Care Required for Animals:
All animals must be supplied with sufficient food and water. This should be supplied as the animal needs it, but should not be less than two times every twenty four hours. All animals need to have adequate shelter from inclement weather. The shelter needs to be clean, sanitary and in good repair to protect the animal from injury.

        Number of Dogs Allowed:
A household may keep no more than three dogs at one time, with the exception of unweaned puppies.

        Kennels:
Dog kennels operated for the purpose of housing non-owned dogs are prohibited within the City of Post
Falls. An exception to this would be a veterinary clinic.

        Prohibited Animals:
Due to the density of population within the City of Post Falls and to insure the health and welfare of its residents, the keeping of swine, cattle, horses, sheep, goats, mules, rabbits or any domestic fowl is prohibited, except those which are associated with a veterinary clinic.

        Dog Licenses:
The owner or harborer of any dog(s) within the City of Post Falls must purchase a license(s) for their dog(s). The annual license fee is as follows:

Male or Female: $1.00 per month
Neutered or spayed: $0.50 per month
Neutered or spayed cats - No Charge
Dog tags are sold at the Post Falls Police Department seven days a week, 24 hours a day. When you license your dog, make sure you bring the dog' s rabies vaccination certificate, and if your dog is neutered or spayed bring that certificate also. Both are needed to license your dog. After paying your annual licensing fee you will receive a " dog tag" which needs to be placed on the animal and kept there at all times.
