This Second Empire and Queen Anne style
home was built in 1887 by William and Margaretha Lackman. The beautiful
estate, constructed by the finest European artisans, took two years to
complete. In 1908, Frank and Carrie Thompson purchased the house and furnishings
and a barn on the property for $32,000.
In May of 1992, the home, which contains
2788 square feet of floor space, was listed on the Register of Historic
Kansas Places. A joint effort between the City of Lenexa, Johnson County,
the State of Kansas and many civic organizations, including the Lenexa
Historical Society, restored the home to its original beauty.
The Lenexa Historical Society conducts
tours of the home, by appointment.
Thompson, while he lived in the house,
sold horses and mules to the New York Police Department, to the ice company
and he sold 1,000 horses to the calvary during World War I.
Today this lovely old home houses the
Lenexa Chamber of Commerce, the Lenexa Economic Development Council, and
the Convention and Visitors Bureau.
